“Swear to God!“

Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. Matthew5:36-37

It seems to me that as a culture we have a hard time backing up what we say. We tend to use our words so loosely that we are being trained to say one thing yet do another. To convince others that we really are telling the truth we have to 'swear to God' or 'promise'. When Jesus says, "let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no'", he is commanding us to do what we say. If you do not intend on doing what you say then don't say you will. God wants us to live a lifestyle of honesty and commitment. May we live in such a way that our 'yes' is simply 'yes' and our 'no' is simply 'no'. #timetochange #lifeundertheson
